How to Have Victory in Christ
Personal counsel for those harassed
by fear and doubts:
Refuse
to believe that the devil can place a curse on you. Believe that you can
belong to God. Believe that He can blot out your past, and all the
mistakes you have made. Believe that He is stronger than the devil, and
that He will accept you and protect you.
When
a terrible thought comes to mind, or when you hear a bad voice, speak
these words: I am now God's little child. In the name of Jesus
Christ, my Saviour,—leave!
Then,
immediately, in the name of Jesus, cry to God for help. Commit your life
anew to Him. Promise to read the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy and
faithfully obey what you read. Tell Him you are now His property, and
ask Him to take care of you.
Then
believe that He does this, and thank Him for doing so. Praise Him!
Praise Him! You are now His little protected child.
To
begin with, at least once every hour, in prayer ask God for protection
against evil powers, and to help you do the next duty correctly. Pray
until you have peace in Christ. Then praise Him for answering your
prayer. Believe that He is answering it.
Keep
a Spirit of Prophecy book near you, wherever you go. If necessary, sew a
little cloth bag to hold it. Every hour, with a prayer for guidance,
open the book and read until you have renewed peace in Christ. Then
thank God for what you have read, and if it is a point requiring
obedience—something you must do,—then tell Him you will do it.
First,
go through Steps to Christ in this way. then go through
Mount of Blessing, and then Christ's Object Lessons.
Every
morning and evening, read in Desire of Ages. When you have
finished that, read Patriarchs and Prophets and Prophets and
Kings. Then go back to Desire of Ages. Sometimes just
select the book most needful just then.
Whenever
you are especially distressed, ask God to show you what you should read
just then, and open Steps to Christ or Desire of Ages.
Keep
reading Gods inspired books. Obey everything you read in them. Talk
to Him as His little child all day long. Praise God more than you
complain, or talk about yourself. Try to find someone to help, even
though it may be in a little way. When you talk to people, try to say
something which will encourage and help them.
Think
often of your heavenly home. You are going there soon to live forever
with Jesus! Think happily about this, and praise God for it. Tell Him
how much you love Him. You are more precious to Him than the greatest
earthly treasure.
Be
sure and get enough rest and eat properly. Go outside every so often and
walk around in the open air, breathing deeply. Thank God as you walk for
all His blessings.
If
you fall, run right back to Him! He will always accept you when you want
to come to Him.
Believe
the best, and, in His strength, do your best. When your mind or body is
weary, just rest quietly in Him.
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3: 5,6
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3Source
