On Saturday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1461which could result in illegal aliens voting.

Any person who renewed or secured a driver’s license through the DMV may now register to vote, or choose to opt out of doing so. Because illegal immigrants are now eligible for obtaining driver’s licenses, they could be allowed to vote in elections if the Secretary of State’s office fails to verify their eligibility properly.
Brown and the California Democratic party know exactly what they are doing; as a Public Policy Institute survey showed, among unregistered adults, 49% lean toward the Democratic Party and 22% toward the Republican Party. Any bill permitting illegal immigrants to vote would cement the Democratic Party’s hold on California.
True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht stated, “This bill is terrible. It makes an already bad situation much, much worse,” adding that California’s registration databases “lack the necessary safeguards to keep noncitizens off the voter rolls.”
Election Integrity Project of California President Linda Paine echoed that AB 1461 “will effectively change the form of governance in California from a Republic whose elected officials are determined by United States citizens and will guarantee that noncitizens will participate in all California elections going forward.” The Election Integrity Project of California had joined True the Vote to demand that brown veto the bill, calling it a path to “‘state sanctioned’ voter fraud.”
Although noncitizens’ driver’s licenses in California feature the phrases “Federal Limits Apply” and “not valid for official federal purposes,” True the Vote spokesman Logan Churchwell pointed out that state officials “specifically chose not to make noncitizen license holders searchable in their DMV database.”
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla countered that the increase in voters will benefit the state, arguing, “The New Motor Voter Act will make our democracy stronger by removing a key barrier to voting for millions of California citizens. Citizens should not be required to opt in to their fundamental right to vote. We do not have to opt in to other rights, such as free speech or due process.”
California follows Oregon, where Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill in March allowing the automatic registration of all eligible Oregonians to vote when they obtain or renew a driver’s license or state identification card.
But Stephen Frank of California Political Review bluntly asserted that the bill will reduce voter turnout because voters will sniff fraud in the polls: “AB 1461 assures corruption of our elections–our elections will look like those of Mexico and other corrupt nations–and honest people will stop voting since illegal aliens will out vote them.”     Beitbart

God gave his mother cancer so that he would stop being gay

25 Apr 2016 at 15:52 ET
The Church Militant  has posted a new video in which he thanks God for giving his mother stomach cancer and dying so that he would be brought back to the Catholic Church. Michael Voris, president and founder of St. Michael’s Media and producer of the website Church Militant, took to YouTube to reveal details of the sinful life he lived prior to his “reversion” to Catholicism.
He was posting the video now, he said, because there were forces seeking to “publicly discredit me, the apostalate, and my work here.” He says that he had always publicly spoken of his life prior to his reversion as a time in which he was living in “mortal sin.” He just hadn’t thought that “a full public confession of details was necessary.”
Voris is not outing himself as a gay man. He denies being gay. He does say, however, that “..most of my thirties, confused about my own sexuality, I lived a life of live-in relationships with homosexual men.” And he is aware of how that looks. “From the oustide, I lived the lifestyle and contributed to the scandal in addition to the sexual sins. On the inside, I was deeply conflicted about all of it.” He says that in his twenties, he slept with both men and women.
He now abhors all of that behavior, which he says was about “seeking solace in lust and surrendering my masculinity.” While Voris seems confused about the relationship between sexuality and gender, he is positive that it was his mother who became the instrument of God’s grace.
“As a last resort, she prayed to be given whatever suffering so that I would be granted sufficient grace to revert.” And, shortly after her prayers, she received an early diagnosis of stomach cancer, which killed her a few years later. It was while watching his mother suffer through her last year of life that Voris began to change his life, but it was her death that made the miracle happen.
“I pledged at her coffin that I would change. I said, ‘Mom, what you went through for me, you will not have gone through in vain.’ I returned fully and completely to the faith.” Two years later, he says, he founded the apostolate that he is now trying to save.
Voris has more to say, however, about how wonderful it was that his mother got cancer. “I was thrilled, over the top with gratitude, with what God had done for me through my mom and her suffering.”
How evil was Voris prior to his mother’s death? He explains a couple of times that things were so bad that if he had been killed in a car accident at the time of his co-habiting with homosexual men that he would have been damned. In fact, he “shudders” every time he thinks about just how bad he used to be.
“I gave up my self, my masculinity, my self-understanding, my identity and my own dignity as a baptized Catholic.”
Voris isn’t certain that all of his followers are going to understand about his failure to disclose the nature of his previous sins. He offers the by-now standard apology that he wants to apologize to “anyone who was wounded in any way.” But he never intended to deceive anyone. He was just so eager to “experience the joy and life-giving truth of the Catholic Church.”
Voris says that being rescued is proof that God can do all things. He can even “restore your formerly shattered confused sexuality.” Through the grace of the Church, he says, “I was given back my masculinity that I had squandered.” In fact, the Church has rescued people like Paul, Augustine, Francis, and Ignatius. So much so, he says while arguing that he himself is not a saint, that you “could almost say that the Church’s mission is to collect miserable sinners and turn them into saints.”
Voris claims that the threat to expose his past means that he is being targeted by the Diabolical (by which he means Satan). But he remains convinced that he is under the protection of St. Michael and the Virgin Mary, who will always defeat the plans made by the devil to bring men like him down.
Voris also assures those watching that there is little chance that he will engage in sexual sin with homosexual men again. Six years ago, at the Fatima’s shrine, he “consecrated my chastity to our Blessed Mother.”        Rawstory

Seventh Day Adventist lay minister fired from his job as Georgia state health chief over his church sermons

(First Liberty Institute)
Dr. Eric Walsh says he was fired because of things he said in his sermons.

Shianee Mamanglu-Regala
A renowned public health expert who also serves as a lay minister for the Seventh Day Adventist Church has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Public Health of Georgia, accusing state officials of firing him over his religious convictions.
Dr. Eric Walsh accepted a position as the director of Georgia Department of Public Health for northwest part in May 2014. A week later, state officials requested copies of sermons he had preached as a lay minister, with topics that included following God, having compassion on the poor, health, marriage, sexuality, world religions, science and creationism among others, CBN News reports.
The day after Dr. Walsh provided copies of the sermons to the state, government officials reportedly informed him in an email that he had been fired.
"Dr. Walsh was terminated because of something he said in a sermon,'' Jeremy Dys, senior counsel for First Liberty Institute, told the Daily Signal. "No one should be fired for something they say in their sermon.''
"No one should be removed from his job for simply expressing his religious belief. In America, it is against the law to fire an employee for expressing his religious beliefs – especially when that expression takes place in a church setting,'' added Andrew Coffman, Walsh's attorney from the group First Liberty.
In May 2014, the Los Angeles Times reported that Georgia health officials retracted a job offer to Walsh "who had come under fire for controversial remarks he made on homosexuality and evolution.''
But a recording of the voicemail from Georgia officials—after they forgot to hang up their phones—captured the audio of them laughing about firing him, saying, among other things, "There's no warm way to say it—'you're out.'"
"I couldn't believe they fired me because of things I talked about in my sermons," said Dr. Walsh. "It was devastating. I have been unable to get a job in public health since then."
First Liberty Institute, a legal organisation that defends the religious freedom of Americans, represented Walsh in the case. They filed the lawsuit in the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Walsh has multiple advanced degrees and served on President Obama's Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDs, reports say.
Reacting to Walsh's case, Roger Severino, director of The Heritage Foundation's DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society, said: "Bureaucrats cannot deny qualified people of faith government jobs simply because they express their beliefs especially in a house of worship. If the First Amendment means anything, it's that government bureaucrats have no business acting as sermon review boards. That would be religious discrimination pure and simple."     CT

April is Strange

Demonic entities populated the ancient Egyptians’ imaginations as far back as 4,000 years ago

//
A Belgium-based Egyptologist has discovered the oldest depictions of ancient Egyptian demons, showing that demonic entities populated the ancient Egyptians’ imaginations as far back as 4,000 years ago.

Presented recently at the International Conference on Ancient Egyptian Demonology at Swansea University, U.K., these demons gripped their victims and cut off their heads.
Wael Sherbiny, an independent scholar who specializes in the ancient Egyptian religious texts, found two demons on two Middle Kingdom coffins about 4,000 years old.
The third was portrayed in a 4,000-year-old leather roll the researcher had previously discovered in the shelves of the Egyptian museum in Cairo, where it was stored and forgotten for more than 70 years. It was the oldest and longest Egyptian leather manuscript.

“These three demons are already familiar to scholars from ancient texts. However, the depiction of two of them was unknown until now,” Sherbiny told Discovery News.
“The drawings show them in either a purely zoomorphic or anthropomorphic representation,” he added.
Two demons, called In-tep, pictured as a dog-like baboon, and Chery-benut, depicted as unspecified figure with human head, appear as guardians at the entrance of a complex building, possibly a kind of temple, that contains several chambers guarded by other demonic entities.
“The texts link this building to the moon god Thoth and the bark of the sun god,” Sherbiny said.

He noted that apart from their names, no accompanying textual elements refer to the tasks of these two demons.
“The name of the first demon, In-tep, may denote his dangerous role in severing heads as a punishment to any intruder of the sacred space,” Sherbiny said.
The third demon, Ikenty, was the guardian of a fiery gate that led to a restricted area concealing a divine image. The demon’s appearance was already known as it was portrayed on a Middle Kingdom coffin (1870-1830 BC) in the form of a large bird with a black feline head.

Sherbiny discovered the same demon in a slightly different, but highly intriguing form in the much older Cairo leather roll, basically finding the oldest image of Ikenty.
“The texts indicate that this demon has a swift attack with inescapably powerful grip on whomever he sees,” Sherbiny said.
The ancient Egyptian world of belief was inhabited by a huge number of entities with super powers. They could play both malevolent or benevolent roles, as threats, maladies and dangers, or as protectors, helpers and defenders.
“They turn up in variety of contexts that touch upon different spheres of human life and after life,” Sherbiny said.

In-tep, Chery-benut and Ikenty revealed that the elaborate and polychrome drawings of entities from the New Kingdom (about 3,500 years ago) onwards have much older roots than previously thought.
Sherbiny will publish the images of the demons in a forthcoming, extensive study which includes an integral analysis of the contexts in which the demons appear.
“Unfortunately little has survived, and the examples I discovered represent a rare opportunity to witness how the ancient Egyptians imagined the invisible,” Sherbiny said.    Discovery

It's nearly May but it's Snowing in London

Snow and sleet has fallen in many parts of the UK as temperatures struggle to get into double figures with the prospect of a Spring-like May a long way off.
Despite the time of year, forecasters are warning the unsettled picture will continue for much of the week with freezing conditions in many parts.
Thunder, lightning and sleet showers are expected with some in northern areas witnessing heavy snowfall, including on the North Yorkshire Moors and parts of Scotland.
The blizzard seen all over the UK were reminiscent of the bizarre scenes on the very same day 35 years ago, when snowstorms hit the British spring.
Cars were buried on the roads as the nation was blanketed in a thick layer of snow on April 26 1981, which saw the worst blizzards for that time of year in a century.
Forecasters think parts of Britain will be colder than Siberia and Greenland this week. There is a strong risk of hail showers throughout the country, with a chance of snow settling down to 200 metres.
Tonight will see wintry showers along the coast, with icy patches developing in Scotland and eastern England. Temperatures will be down to freezing in some places.

HOW COMMON IS SNOW THIS LATE IN THE YEAR?

It is rare to see snow past mid-April, however it has occurred this late in the year a number of times over the past few decades.
May 6 1997: 209 weather stations across the UK (88 in England, 36 in Wales, 62 in Scotland and 23 in Northern Ireland) recorded a day of snow falling
April 26 1987: Appearances of snowflakes falling out of showers in Wiltshire and Berkshire
April 27 1985: Hampstead reported snow and quite a lot of other stations in London reported sleet
April 29-30 1979: Showers of sleet and snow reported across the country
April 23 1975: A little sleet and snow reported across eastern and southern England
April 18-19 1969: Sleet and snow showers reported in East Anglia
April 21 1967: Widespread snow, mainly in the higher peaks of Scotland and northern England
April 14-15 1966: Widespread snow reported in parts of southern England - of up to 8.89cm
April 19 1965: The ground was covered in snow in parts of the north east of England and the Midlands
The sight of snow in London has prompted a flurry of bets at Ladbrokes on April being the coldest month on record at 5/1.
Another bet being taken on at 4/5 is that snow will fall in the UK every day until Sunday May 1.
Nicky Maxey, a spokeswoman for the MetOffice, said: 'It's continuing to look unsettled tomorrow and there's still a chance of more hail and thunder.
'More snow will be at higher levels, over 500 metres and further north there will be a chance of some thunder with some hail anywhere in the country.
'Tomorrow the eastern side will have more chances of snowy conditions, less chance in the west
'That unsettled picture continues for the rest of the week, as we go on wind more from the Atlantic, westerly direction and low pressure will influence weather.
'Temperatures will be in double figures again by the weekend. London on Saturday and Sunday will be 14-15C [57.2F-59F], back to more of what you expect for the time of year.'
There is a severe weather warning in place for northern Scotland warning of snow and ice.
The unsettled conditions could also cause problems for Monday's Bank Holiday, forecasters say.
On this day last year temperatures peaked in London at 11.3C [52F] - with the hottest part in Sutton Bonington near Nottingham which reached 13.3C [56F].
Mrs Maxey added: 'Today is looking like most places will be struggling to see double figures.
'As you would expect further north is colder - in Scotland, Aberdeen and Glasgow looking at 7-8C [44-46F]. In London it will be nearer 10-11C [50-52F] and for the south east today.
'That's per normal and is a few degrees difference between north and the rest of UK.'
Spring snowfall will allow the ski resort in the Cairngorms to remain open into May.
Heavy snow and freezing temperatures on Tuesday morning mean more than half of the 11 lifts in the Aviemore area are open for skiers and snowboarders.
In 2010, CairnGorm Mountain remained open until June for the first time with hundreds of skiers trekking to the snow.
This year, the resort will be open until at least May 2, when staff will review the conditions.
Snow is expected to continue in higher parts of the north east of Scotland until the weekend.209 weather stations across the UK (88 in England, 36 in Wales, 62 in Scotland and 23 in Northern Ireland) recorded a day of snow falling
A man sledges in a field near the A93 as the snow gates on the road at Spittal of Glenshee, Scotland, are closed due to the weather
CairnGorm Mountain general manager Janette Jansson said: 'We are absolutely delighted to continue offering great snowsports at CairnGorm at the moment.
'It was a particularly late start to the season this year, but we are certainly making up for it now with plenty of snow still on the slopes.'
Tomorrow will see a mix of sunshine and wintry showers, with hail, snow and sleet across the UK.
Showers could be heavy at times and accompanied by thunder. Temperatures will be between 7-9C [44F-48F] in the north and 9-12C [44F-53F] in the south.
There will be more heavy wintry showers on Thursday, particularly along the east coast, with a chance of snow settling above 500 metres.
The wintry showers will continue on Friday, with a risk of hail and snow on the hills in the north.
The weekend is also expected to be unsettled, with rain showers across the country, which could turn heavy in places with hail and thunder. There may be snow in the Scottish highlands.      DailyMail

Whales Found Dead In Germany With Stomachs Full Of Plastic

In January, 29 sperm whales were found stranded on shores around the North Sea, an area that is too shallow for the marine wildlife. Only recently were details of the animals’ necropsy released. However, scientists were deeply disturbed by what they found in the animals’ stomachs.
According to a press release from Wadden Sea National Park in Schleswig-Holstein, many of the whales had stomachs FULL of plastic debris, including a 13-meter-long fishing net, a 70 cm piece of plastic from a car and other pieces of plastic litter.
Some suggest that the animals thought the items were food, such as squid, which is their main staple. Others, however, believe that the travesty is largely a result of humanity’s shocking disregard for marine life, which has resulted in an overabundance of plastic in the oceans.
Said Robert Habeck, environment minister for the state of Schleswig-Holstein:
“These findings show us the results of our plastic-oriented society. Animals inadvertently consume plastic and plastic waste, which causes them to suffer, and at worst, causes them to starve with full stomachs.”
Nicola Hodgkins of Whale and Dolphin Conservation echoed that statement. She stated:
“Although the large pieces will cause obvious problems and block the gut, we shouldn’t dismiss the smaller bits that could cause a more chronic problem for all species of cetacean – not just those who suction feed.”
This isn’t the first time a sperm whale has been found dead with innards full of inedible contents. In 2011, a young whale was found floating dead off the Greek island of Mykonos. Its stomach was so distended, biologists thought the animal swallowed a giant squid. However, when its four stomachs were dissected, nearly 100 plastic bags and other pieces of debris were found.
It should be noted that the plastic is not what killed the young male sperm whales. According to National Geographic, they died of heart failure. This was a result of mistakenly swimming into the North Sea, likely in search of squid, and then not being able to support their own body weights in the shallow water. As a result, their internal organs collapsed.
Regardless, the fact that many of their stomachs were full of pollution is a horrible indictment of humans. As has been reported in the past, 80% of the plastic which is discarded on land ends up in the oceans, where it is consumed by wildlife or swirls for years in great garbage patches. The fact that mankind – a species with a smaller brain than a whale – is responsible for such a travesty is ironic and saddening.
Until humans learn the value of living sustainably while respecting all life forms, travesties such as this one will continue to take place.    TrueActivist

The packaging used for certain food products can impact hormones.

By April M. Short / AlterNet April 23, 2016

As if it weren’t already enough of a headache to find non-toxic, safe and healthy food to eat, a recent study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspective reveals that the packaging used for certain food products can impact hormones. Researchers for the study found that people who eat more fast food have significantly increased rates of phthalates—industrial chemicals used to make plastics—in their systems. The study authors attribute the trend to chemicals seeping from plastic packaging into foods.
The study asked 8,877 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examinations Surveys between 2003 and 2010 to report all the food they had eaten within last 24 hours. Participants also donated a urine sample to the study. Researchers tested each urine sample for the industrial chemicals di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DiNP) and bisphenol A (BPA)—all of which are suspected to impact health and hormones.
The results showed people for whom fast food made up 35% or more of their daily food consumption had higher rates of DEHP (24%) and DiNP (40%), compared to those who did not eat fast food. There was no significant correlation between BPA and fast food.
Fast foods often comes in packaging that contains phthalates, as do a number of processed grocery store items, according to the American Chemistry Council.
While the study did not show a correlation between BPA in the blood and fast-food consumption, researchers concluded in 2008 that plastics containing BPA can and do seep into foods, and then into the bloodstream. Since then, BPA has been banned by many food packaging manufacturers, which could potentially explain its absence in the recent study.
A Time article on April 13 discussed the recent study results in detail, and spoke with study author Ami Zota, an assistant professor of environmental and occupational health at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. Zota told Time,"The same range of concentrations measured in this [group] overlaps with the range of concentrations that have been measured in some of epidemiological studies that find adverse health effects.”
Thanks to efforts to educate the public that date back to the '50s, most people now know chemicals are entering our food supply in a number of ways. Studies continue to link chemicals with common cancers, like breast cancers, as well as other health issues like reproductive abnormalities in men and women. Despite mass efforts to rein in the big companies like Monsanto that are responsible for the creation of many chemical poisons, toxins continue to make their way into our food supply all the time via packaging, pesticides sprayed on crops, and antibiotics and hormones given to poultry, pigs and cattle in industrial factory farm operations.
Many people are generally aware that fast food is unhealthy (toxic chemicals aside, fast food contributes to high rates of diabetes, heart disease and obesity), and it’s likely the average person has heard that processed foods contain cancer-causing carcinogens. Still, Americans continue to consume these foods at perversely high rates. According to the United States Healthful Food Council, the average American adult buys a meal or snack from a restaurant 5.8 times a week and more than 30 percent of children eat fast food on any given day. Americans spend an average of $100 billion on fast food each year.
Ami Zota spoke to this piece of the puzzle in the Time interview, which points out that “about a third of all the people in the study had eaten fast food in the prior day.”
“That’s a lot,” Zota said. “That alone tells you the public health impact of this type of food preparation.”
Zota also told Time that in addition to chemicals leaching into food through packaging, “plastic gloves and conveyer belts could also be sources.”
The study concludes that, “Fast food may be a source of exposure to DEHP and DiNP. These results, if confirmed, could inform individual and regulatory exposure reduction strategies.”     Alternet

Christians refugees betrayed by Pope

By Isabel Hunter In Lesbos, Greece, For Mailonline

A Christian brother and sister from Syria say they have been 'let down' by the Pope after he left them behind in a Lesbos refugee camp despite promises they would be given a new life in Italy.
Roula and Malek Abo say they were two of the lucky 'chosen 12' refugees selected by the Vatican to be taken from the desperate camp and housed in Rome.
But what seemed like the chance of a lifetime was cruelly snatched away when they were told the following day they couldn't go. Instead three Muslim families were taken.
Roula, 22, and her brother arrived on Lesbos on April 1 – ten days after the controversial EU deal to return all asylum seekers arriving to Greece from Turkey.
Their application for asylum is being process and they are waiting to learn if they will be sent back to Turkey.
Stuck on Lesbos, Roula told MailOnline: 'If they can do this for 12 people they can do it for more.
'If you have promised to take people back to Italy will something like registration papers stand in your way?'
Future: Roula, a Christian Syrian, and her brother were they had been selected to go to Rome with the Pope but were let down the following day and are now stuck on Lesbos
Neither Community Sant'Egidio, the charity which organised the trip, or the Vatican would explain the selection process over which migrants were picked.
Spokesman Massimiliano Signifredi called the incident 'regrettable' - adding: 'The problem here is the three Syrians arrived after the March 20 deadline. They arrived just after the agreement between the European Union and Turkey.
Mr Signifredi said: 'Our staff went to Lesbos and spoke with the people who were selected. But everything was decided by the Vatican.
'The question why the Pope took only Muslims is difficult to understand and he was suffering, I think, because he wanted to do something also for Christians as the chief of the Catholic Church. But he couldn't because there is this international agreement [with the EU].'
The Vatican declined to comment.
Still reeling over her dream being so cruelly dashed, Roula had to watch the three fortunate families board a plane for a new life in Europe while she and her brother were left behind to face an uncertain future in Greece.
Pope Francis, the son of Italian immigrants to Argentina, said the decision to take a dozen to Italy was a gesture of goodwill to set an example to the world to extend the hand of friendship during Europe's migrant crisis.
They are being housed in Rome by Sant'Egidio, which has brought 250 Syrians to Italy since March.
Roula, her brother, 28, and a third man, their friend Samir, also 28, from Damascus, say a day or so before the Pope arrived they were approached by three volunteers believed to be from Sant'Egidio.
She explained: 'They said they would take us to Italy, to pack our bags and to meet them the next day.
Leading by example: The Pope took a total of 12 people back from Lesbos to Greece with him. The leader of the Catholic Church has been vocal over his disapproval of how Europe has handled the refugee crisis
'It was so secretive – they didn't announce it to anybody and we were told to keep it a secret.
'It seemed so unofficial – we didn't know who they were or if they would really take us,' Roula added.
'I thought they might be organ traffickers – we had no idea.'
Samir had no such doubts when he was approached, however.
'I was so excited to go to Italy - it was such a relief,' he said. 'They offered me my future on a plate, and then 24 hours later they took it away.
'They had even told me that after a few months I could be reunited with my family and they would arrange for them to come from Damascus and join me in Italy.'
But the next day they received the crushing news that their places were given to another family.
The reason they were given was because they had arrived in Greece after the March 20 deadline for the EU deal.
The Pope told reporters on the plane back from Lesbos that it had been the idea of one of his aides and that he had immediately agreed.
'I felt the spirit was talking to us,' he said, adding that 'everything was done according to the rules', with documents provided by Italy, the Vatican and Greece.
Asked why they were all Muslim, he said there was something wrong with the papers of a Christian family that had originally been on the list.
All 12 migrants from three families have spoken of their delight at being set up in their own flats in Rome capital and given Italian lessons.
'It was an amazing feeling [to be leaving the camp in Lesbos] because this was our big dream,' said Hasan, a 31-year-old a garden designer who fled after the Syrian regime tried to make him join the army. He is now in Rome with his son Riad, two, and wife, Nour.
'When we came here to Sant'Egidio everyone has been very helpful and kind. Now we have our own room [apartment] which is just for us.
'We have been treated very, very well. We really feel now at last we are safe.'
Arrivals: The lucky families that were chosen to go with the Pope - Nour and Suhila were among the three families from Syria who did get to Italy
But 1,200 miles away in the sweltering makeshift camp with the rats, snakes and rubbish of those who remain faced with the prospect of being returned to Turkey is Samir.
'I was very disappointed,' he said.
The siblings are trying to stay positive as they want to travel to Germany where their mother is living. But they are at a loss to explain why Sant Edigio volunteers appeared to 'play god' and got their hopes up only to let them down.
'We're happy for the families that went of course,' said Roula, who is hoping the charity stands by its promise to fast-track their applications and come back for them, but it is no guarantee.
She went on: 'We don't care for one country over another – I just want to be with my mum.'
Roula and Malek left Qamishli, which is in Syria near the Turkish border, in March, in fear for their lives.
'They killed the Christians in Raqqa we heard, so of course we had to leave,' Roula said.
Malek added: 'We stayed as long as possible, because it's not easy to get the money to leave Syria. It takes you 50 years to buy a house so you don't decide to leave it in a minute.
'We were clinging to the hope that it will get better. We know that as soon as we leave the house people will come and take our stuff. We know we can't go back.
Residents: Kara Tepe is the preferred camp for those trapped on Lesbos. Currently there are 900 people living here, who have all been termed 'vulnerable', and have their applications on hold
'We wanted to finish university – I studied law and Roula was studying to be a primary school teacher.'
The pair had hoped finishing their education would give them a better chance to start a new life in Europe, but Roula had to abandon her studies to flee.
Samir left Syria for Turkey late last year, just before Christmas, after he escaped being forced to join President Assad's army fighting a war he doesn't believe in and do his military service.
'They force you to sign up and they make you kill people – if you don't, they kill you. I had to leave,' he told MailOnline.
Like many Syrians, he first tried to make a new life for himself in Turkey, despite having to wait for months on the Turkish-Syrian border, as Turkey has abandoned its open door policy to allow refugees fleeing the violence to safety.
'I was in Istanbul for three months trying to find work. I tried so hard, but it was impossible. People look down on you there – they don't want to hire Syrians,' he said.
So he joined the thousands of his desperate countrymen and the now standard fee of €2,000 to cross to Lesbos on a rubber dinghy.
In Kara Tepe, the camp named in Turkish because it is above the black cliffs smugglers tell their newly branded captains to aim for, Samir, Roula and Malek joined 900 other refugees deemed vulnerable and have their applications on hold.
Much preferred to the feared Moria detention centre where migrants are sent upon arrival, the camp is nestled on hillside surrounded by olive trees, and is exclusively reserved for families who have vulnerable members – those who are disabled, have severe trauma and are survivors of torture or rape, or are single women, pregnant or lactating mothers.
Frustration: For many, the disappointment of getting so far, only to get stuck once more has been hard to deal with. Pictured: A Syrian man listens to music at the camp
Inhabitants are free to go to the supermarket, as long as they have written permission, and are served meals twice a day.
NGOs provide humanitarian assistance and volunteers help out with clothes distribution and activities for the bored children.
While the residents are free to leave, if they are caught outside the camp without written permission, they face deportation or will be moved to the Moria detention centre.
But it is miserable and the atmosphere is tense.
For many the disappointment of having made it to Greece and across the water to be told they cannot go any further is too much to bear – made worse by the conditions.
'We get told that we are lucky to be here in this field,' grandmother Kawther Yousef told MailOnline, 'but what are we, sheep?'
'This is the fifth snake the boys have killed – they're all about this size, they're babies – but where is the mother?' another grandmother called Susan from Kobane added.
The group of women are all alone – their husbands have either died in the fighting or they have gone ahead to Europe and are desperate to be reunited.
All three families selected by the charity were taken from Kara Tepe camp to meet the Pope in Mytilene before jetting off to their new lives in Rome.
But for the hundreds left behind, the idea of selecting such a small number people seemingly at random is a hard pill to swallow.

The three Syrian family brought to Italy by Pope Francis were among the first to benefit from a special mission by a Catholic organisation to help refugees reach Europe.
The Community of Sant'Egidio aims to provide a safe and legal way for the vulnerable to cross the Mediterranean and find sanctuary within the European Union.
Massimiliano Signifredi, Sant'Egidio's spokesman, told MailOnline: 'The Syrian families were brought to Italy as part of our work to provide a safe and legal passage [to Europe].
'We want to provide humanitarian corridors for people fleeing war to come to Europe.
'He have already brought almost 100 Syrian refugees to Italy from Greece and we hope to bring a further [Syrian refugees] from Lebanon next month.'

One Syrian family were brought to Italy in February, 93 Syrians were brought to Italy in March and a further 150 Syrians are expected to brought from refugee camps in Lebanon in May, as part of Sant'Egidio's mission.
Sant'Egidio Director Valeria Martano told MailOnline: 'Refugees have the right to seek protection in Europe. We want to provide them with a way to achieve this by providing a safe passage – so many people have died - and without having to become involved with people traffickers.
'Once they arrive in Italy we provide them with everything they need. We find them somewhere to live and give them [Italian] language lessons so they can integrate within the local community.
'We have people living in Rome and in other cities such as Trentino in the north of Italy.
'One old Syrian lady is living in a sheltered community because she is very frail.'

Founded in Rome in 1968 the Community of Sant'Egidio is a Catholic organisation to help the most desperate and spread the word of Christ.
They set up hospices for victims of HIV/AIDs while others condemned the sufferers, they find homes for frail older people, Italian language classes for migrants and have printed a hand-book which they distribute to the homeless entitled 'Where to Eat, Sleep and Wash in Rome'.
The organisation also runs many international missions including mediating between rival factions in civil wars in Mozambique, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Balkans.      DailyMail

A school in Malaysia was forced to close after sightings of a mysterious "black figure"

A student's photo of the "black figure" at the school.
A school in Malaysia was forced to close after sightings of a mysterious "black figure" sparked a suspected outbreak of "mass hysteria".
The panic began last Monday when several students and teachers in the city of Kota Bharu said they had seen a "black figure" in the school.
Sightings continued to be reported for the next two days, with about 100 people affected by what they believed were supernatural experiences.
The school was shut on Thursday while Islamic traditional experts, scholars and even witch doctors were called in to carry out prayer sessions and "exorcisms".
Although the school reopened on Sunday, screaming and shouting continued to be heard at SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 secondary school on Sunday, according to Free Malaysia Today.
"Our students were possessed and disturbed [by these spirits]. We are not sure why it happened. We don't know what it is that affected us," a senior school staff member told the BBC.
"But the place is a bit old, and these children can be disobedient and sometimes throw their rubbish around the school grounds. Perhaps they hit some 'djinns' and offended the spirits," she added, using a local reference to ghosts.
Norlailawati Ramli, a teacher, said she was among the people affected.
"When I was holding one of the pupils, my arms felt extraordinarily heavy. I recited the istighfar. Things were truly out of control at the time," she told local news channel Astro Awani.
"But after the pupil recovered and went home, I then felt as though someone was hanging onto the left side of my body. I saw flashes of black, like a black figure," Ms Norlailawati said.
Another teacher, Kamariah Ibrahim, she said also saw the black figure.

"It was trying to enter my body, but my colleagues were surrounding me, reciting verses from the Koran," Ms Kamariah said. "I felt like my head was bloating, I felt numb and tears kept pouring down my face. I silently recited the Ayatul Kursi, over and over again, then my head began to feel lighter after about an hour."
Robert Bartholomew, a sociologist, said it was a textbook case of mass hysteria - a situation in which various people, often in a small, tight-knit group, suffer from collective delusions. This can lead to incidents of mass fainting and vomiting.
"Malays are susceptible because of their belief in an array of spirits," Mr Bartholomew told the BBC, adding such outbreaks usually occur in all-female boarding schools because they are the strictest.
In 2012, the World Health Organisation said a spate of apparent poisonings at girls' schools across Afghanistan was probably outbreaks of mass hysteria rather than a Taliban plot, as had been feared.     Telegraph

The Man of Sin

1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Stand Firm
13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

The Face Of Deception

The penalty of the transgression of God's law is death. Christ suffered death for man, and brought life and immortality to light by coming from the dead. When he died, the death knell of Satan was sounded. The work of Christ was to destroy him who had the power of death; therefore we are today prisoners of hope. How grateful we should be that, notwithstanding this earth is so small amid the created worlds, God notices even us. The nations are before him as the drop in the bucket, and as the small dust in the balance; and yet the great, the stupendous work that has been done for us shows how much he loves us.
As soon as Christ was raised from the dead, Satan's lying propensities led him to start the lie that the body of Christ had been stolen. By this he thought he could conceal the fact that it was the Son of God who had died, and he could, after all, make a victory out of his terrible defeat. Failing in this, he tried another scheme. He had controlled the Jewish nation so that they had rejected and crucified the Son of God. He now pretends to exalt Christ before the Christian world by telling them that instead of keeping the seventh-day Sabbath they must keep the first day of the week in memory of Christ's resurrection. Anything, he cares not what, to show that the law of God can be changed! If he can make the world believe that this law can be changed, he has gained his point.
There is one pointed out in prophecy as the man of sin. He is the representative of Satan. Taking the suggestions of Satan concerning the law of God, which is as unchangeable as his throne, this man of sin comes in and represents to the world that he has changed that law, and that the first day of the week instead of the seventh is now the Sabbath. Professing infallibility, he claims the right to change the law of God to suit his own purposes. By doing, he exalts himself above God, and leaves the world to infer that God is fallible. If it were indeed true that God had made a rule of government that needed to be changed, it would certainly show fallibility.
But Christ declared that not one jot or tittle of the law should fail until heaven and earth should pass away. The very work that he came to do was to exalt the law, and show to the created worlds and to heaven that God is just, and that his law need not be changed. But here is Satan's right-hand man ready to carry on the work that Satan commenced in heaven, that of trying to amend the law of God. And the Christian world has sanctioned his efforts by adopting this child of the papacy,--the Sunday institution. They have nourished it, and will continue to nourish it, until Protestantism shall give the hand of fellowship to the Roman power. Then there will be a law against the Sabbath of God's creation, and then it is that God "will do a strange work in the earth." He has borne long with the perversity of the race; he has tried to win them to himself. But the time will come when they shall have filled their measure of iniquity; and then it is that God will work. This time is almost reached. God keeps a record with the nations: the figures are swelling against them in the books of heaven; and when it shall have become a law that the transgression of the first day of the week shall be met with punishment, then their cup will be full.
We should consider that it was not merely to accomplish the redemption of man that Christ came to earth; it was not merely that the inhabitants of this little world might regard the law of God as it should be regarded; but it was to demonstrate to all the worlds that God's law is unchangeable, and that the wages of sin is death.
There is a great deal more to this subject than we can take in at a glance. Oh that all might see the importance of carefully studying the Scriptures! Many seem to have the idea that this world and the heavenly mansions constitute the universe of God. Not so. The redeemed throng will range from world to world, and much of their time will be employed in searching out the mysteries of redemption. And throughout the whole stretch of eternity, this subject will be continually opening to their minds. The privileges of those who overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony are beyond comprehension.
We have each to battle with the fallen foe. I feel an intense interest that all should look upon this battle in the light of the Bible. Begin the warfare at once by gaining victories over self. Do not give place to the Devil. Do not sin against God, by indulging sinful thoughts or words. Do not let the enemy have control over your powers, but throw all the weight of your influence on the side of Christ.
When you look at the cross of Calvary, you cannot doubt God's love or his willingness to save. He has worlds upon worlds that give him divine honor, and heaven and all the universe would have been just as happy if he had left this world to perish; but so great was his love for the fallen race that he gave his own dear Son to die that they might be redeemed from eternal death. As we see the care, the love, that God has for us, let us respond to it; let us give to Jesus all the powers of our being, fighting manfully the battles of the Lord. We cannot afford to lose our souls; we cannot afford to sin against God. Life, eternal life in the kingdom of glory, is worth everything. But if we would obtain this precious boon, we must live a life of obedience to all of God's requirements; we must carry out the principles of the Christian religion in our daily life.
The law of God is made void in the land. For this reason every one who sees the light in regard to that law should put on the armor, and in the name of Jesus try to build the breach that has been made in that law by the man of sin. "And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it."
Oh that I might impress upon the minds of all the true mission of Christ in coming to our world! It was to redeem man, and at the same time to show the immutability of his Father's law. The very fact that it was necessary for him to give his life for the fallen race, shows that the law of God will not release man from one tittle of its claims upon him. Satan's work has ever been to find fault with the law of God. But the very fact that Christ bore the penalty of the transgression of the law, is a mighty argument to all created intelligences in heaven and in other worlds that that law is changeless; that God is righteous, merciful, and self-denying; and that his administration is one of justice and mercy. Pope Francis: The Refugee's Saviour

In a hugely symbolic move seen as a lesson in solidarity for Europe, Francis, who is the son of Italian migrants to Argentina, took 12 Syrians from three families – all of them Muslimshome with him to the Vatican on Saturday.
“All refugees are children of God,” the 79-year-old pontiff said on the flight back to Rome, adding that though his gesture was “a drop in the ocean” he hoped “the ocean will never be the same again”.
In an interview with the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa, the families, who spent their first night in Rome at a Catholic charity, expressed their gratitude for the pope’s “gesture of hope”.
“We saw friends and relatives die in the rubble, we fled Syria because we no longer had any hope,” said Hasan, an engineer from Damascus, who arrived in Italy with his wife, Nour, and two-year-old son.
After fleeing to Turkey, he and his family set out for Europein a rubber dinghy that sailed from the Turkish coast to Greece. “But it was overloaded,” he said, recalling the pitch black of the sea at night and the waves rocking the vessel.
“In Lesbos, we understood that we were stuck in a place that we could not leave, [we were] in a trap, a prison”, he said. He described the pope as a saviour for taking them off the island, where thousands of migrants risk being sent back to Turkey under a new deportation deal between the EU and Turkey.
Pope Francis spoke emotionally on Sunday of his meeting with migrants and refugees on Lesbos. Addressing worshippers at his weekly Angelus prayer in St Peter’s Square, the pontiff related his visit to a migrant processing centre, where about 3,000 people are being held.
“We greeted around 300 of them, one by one,” said Francis, who was accompanied on his visit by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens.
“There were so many children. Some of these children witnessed their parents and friends dying, drowned at sea. I saw such suffering,” he said.
He went on to tell of one particular case, “that of a young man, who was not even 40”.
“I met him yesterday with his two sons. He was Muslim and told me he had married a Christian, [and that] they loved and respected each other,” he said. “She had her throat slit by terrorists because she would not renounce Christ and abandon her faith.”
Wafa, another of the refugees on the papal flight from Lesbos with her husband Osama, eight-year-old daughter Masa and six-year-old son Omar, told La Stampa of the constant bombardments the experienced around their home.
“Since then [my son] has barely spoken … he is locked in an impenetrable silence,” she said. “Even today, he wakes up every night crying and we cannot get him to play with his sister.”
Wafa said she and her husband, who are from the Damascus suburb of Zamalka, had opted to cut ties with the past. “We know we took the right decision,” she said. After their stay on Lesbos, which seemed interminable “Francis gave us a new life,” she said.
Ramy, a 51-year-old teacher from the eastern city of Deir Ezzor, which is occupied by Islamic State, fled Syria with his wife Suhila and three children – sons Rashid, 18 and Abdelmajid, 16, and daughter Al Quds, seven – after their home was destroyed in the war.
“We discuss a lot and find it hard to imagine what life will be like in the future. We don’t know whether we will start over in Europe or whether, one day, we will be able to return to a Syria free of war and violence,” he told La Stampa.
“We are grateful to the pope, we will prove ourselves worthy of this opportunity and the gift he gave us,” he said.
The three families, who had initially set their sights on reaching Germany or another European country, were expected to seek asylum in Italy.
Their arrival brings to about 20 the number of refugees living in the Vatican, which has fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. A similar intake across Europe would see 6 million people given asylum on the continent of 300 million.
Last year, the pope appealed to every Catholic diocese in Europe to take in a refugee family, an appeal that fell on deaf ears across most parts of the continent.
The number of migrants arriving in Greece has fallen drastically since Turkey agreed to take back all those landing on the Greek islands in return for billions in EU cash and other concessions.
More than 1.1 million people have crossed clandestinely from Turkey to Greece since the start of 2015, and hundreds have drowned en route.     The Guardian
