We have also a more sure word of
prophecy: whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that
shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in
your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19
The bible likens prophecy to a light that shines in a dark place. The very word "prophecy"
denotes that which is in the future or what lies ahead. With the
"light" of prophecy we can know assuredly what lies ahead. As
"Seventh-day Adventist" we are called to be students of prophecy. From
the pen of inspiration we read: "As a people we are called individually
to be students of prophecy. We must watch with earnestness
that we may discern any ray of light which God shall present to us. We
are to catch the first gleamings of truth; and through prayerful study
clearer light may be obtained, which can be brought before others. {5T
708.2} From the book evangelism we read: "Ministers should present the
sure word of prophecy as the foundation of the faith of Seventh-day
Adventists. The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation should be carefully
studied, and in connection with them the words, "Behold the Lamb of
God, which taketh away the sin of the world." {Ev 196.2} In order to
understand prophecy and put it in it's correct timed sequence, we must
of necessity understand the "sanctuary"
and it's types. Again from the pen of inspiration we read.: As a
people, we should be earnest students of prophecy; we should not rest
until we become intelligent in regard to the subject
of the sanctuary, which is brought out in the visions of Daniel and
John. This subject sheds great light on our present position and work,
and gives us unmistakable proof that God has led us in our past
experience. It explains our disappointment in 1844, showing us that the
sanctuary to be cleansed was not the earth, as we had supposed, but
that Christ then entered into the most holy apartment of the heavenly
sanctuary, and is there performing the closing work of His priestly
office, in fulfillment of the words of the angel to the prophet Daniel,
"Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be
cleansed." {Ev 222.3} Source
