The sanctification of Sunday rest, the right to a pension in
retirement, and dignified work are all intertwined, Pope Francis said in
an address in St. Peter’s Square on November 7.
The “principle, subject, and end” of the economy and of all social
institutions is the human person, the Pope told 23,000 employees of the
Italian National Social Security Institute. “His dignity cannot ever be
compromised, even when he ceases to be economically productive.”
